I’m thrilled to get my driving license in China, finally! I’m gonna share with you guys how I did it. So I hope this post would help those who want to get their driving license in China ( and with the valid driver license from their country)

It took me 8 days from day 1 when I prepared the required documents to holding the driver license in my hand. The next day I was able to rent a car and drove to the beach. There was only 4 steps you need to do to get the license and it’s not difficult.

First step

You need to prepare the paper documents, including:

1. Registration form of temporary residency for visitors

2. Official translation of passport and original driver license

3. Photos

4. Health report

I know language is always the biggest barrel. It seems impossible to get all these documents by yourself if you can’t speak Chinese. Most the agents I found don’t have this service.

Second Step

Review the questions and answers of the test you would have to take and pass to get the license.

The test is about the regulations and laws on road safety in China.

For me, the agent service includes providing the questions bank. So I spent a few days to review and memorize all the questions in it.

Of course if you want you can read the regulations and laws on road safety for further concerns when you actually drive on road in China.

Third Step

Make an appointment to take the test.

When you are ready after studying the questions and answers, you can go to the Department of Motor Vehicles to make an appointment for the test.

For me, the agent was able to make the appointment somehow without me going there. So it’s really convenient for me. I just needed to show up the day I took the test. However, if you are going to apply it by yourself, you would need to take all those documents to do that at the spot.

Fourth Step

Go to the Department of Motor Vehicles to take the test.

The test I took in Guangzhou was done on the computer. It was 100 questions and I got 96 correct. You need to get at least 90 correct answers out of the 100 to pass the test.

Then I waited for the driving license with my agent who helped a lot there.

The same day later I was able to get my license. If your test is taken in the afternoon, then you might need to go there again to get the license another day.

So I hope this info will help you guys who want to get the driving license the easy way.
